What is a goth?

I feel the heading, 'VIOLENCE', has provoked a mild rising in the eyebrow department... but never fear, (not yet anyway), for i have my reasons. Unfortunately, the reason is grave. It appears; that the everpresent threat - posed on a daily basis to those loving La Vida negro, by those loving La Vida stupid (ie everyone else, duh!), has at last been noticed!!!!
Experience?
From time to time, we all experience moments of paranoia, 'are they looking at me?', 'am i wearing enough black?', and so on... Unfortunatly, the usual taunts of, 'goth slut', 'emo bitch', 'Morticia',so on and so on, have gone the way of everything else, and become more vicious, and now deadly. Here, we would like to host a section, containing the experiences of like minded souls. What experiences have you had with prejudice, and is there anything that can be done?
